PALMDALE, CA — The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) has released 2024 Part 1 Crime Statistics for the City of Palmdale, offering a full year perspective on criminal activity across Antelope Valley. The standardized data highlights key public safety wins. Part 1 crimes, categorized as either violent or property crimes, are serious offenses that include homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft and arson. This report emphasizes the City’s proactive approach to criminal apprehension, showcasing how enhanced community programs and technology-driven enforcement strategies are making Palmdale the safest city in the Antelope Valley.

January 2025 showed dropping crime rates with crimes against person in Palmdale decreasing by 16.28% compared to January 2024. Total Part 1 Crimes against person and property decreased by 1.5% in this comparison period. Specifically, homicides, rape and aggravated assault dropped by 100%, 33.3% and 8.1%, respectively.

“Public safety remains our top priority, and these statistics reaffirm the importance of our relentless efforts to take down criminals,” said Mayor Richard J. Loa. “While we’re not done yet, these numbers show that our crime rates are lower than those in surrounding areas, thanks to the strong priority we place on innovative public safety technology and expanding resources.”

Though statistics show an increase in certain categories, this rise reflects the successful resolution of more cases, thanks to a strengthened partnership between the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department and Palmdale’s Public Safety team. In 2024, Community Service Officers (CSOs) handled over 4,500 calls and took more than 2,300 reports. By managing 10% of all calls and writing 15% of reports, CSOs have allowed Sheriff’s deputies to focus on emergent calls and reduce overall response times.

Throughout 2024, Palmdale also introduced and expanded several key public safety programs, including:

  • Flock Safety Camera Investment:The citywide deployment of Flock license plate reader cameras has been instrumental in tracking and recovering stolen vehicles and identifying hundreds of suspects in criminal activity, including those involved in murder, kidnapping, burglary and sex trafficking.

  • Reinvented Business Watch: With increased participation from local businesses, this program has strengthened the partnership between law enforcement and business owners to prevent crime and protect livelihoods. The first 250 businesses to sign up will receive a free Ring Spotlight camera.

  • Neighborhood Watch: Packed Neighborhood Watch events are held in every district of the City, giving residents access to vital public safety resources and strengthening community engagement in crime prevention.

  • Regulation of Unlicensed Food Vending: Enhanced enforcement and compliance efforts have contributed to improved food safety and sanitation in public spaces.

  • Alert Palmdale: After a successful ad campaign started at the beginning of the year, participation in Alert Palmdale, the City’s emergency notification system, increased by 108%, elevating real-time communication with residents during disasters.

“These programs, combined with the unwavering commitment of our law enforcement officers, Public Safety team and engaged residents, are central to our mission of protecting life and property throughout the City,” continued Mayor Loa. “There is no place for crime in our community. We are fearless in our prosecution and our commitment to keeping order in Palmdale.”
