Palmdale Celebrates Environmental Pride


PALMDALE – In celebration of Earth Day 2023, the City is showing its Environmental Pride with a series of programs and events focused on making the community cleaner and safer for all. Palmdale Pride Week – Extra Trash Bags

From Monday, April 24 through Friday, April 28, WM will collect up to ten extra bags of trash on the regular trash day for customers living in Palmdale city limits. Customers will need to contact WM customer service at least 48 hours in advance of service day to schedule the extra bag pick-up. You may call 661/947-7197, use the MyWM app, orvisit home.wm.com/palmdale. No household hazardous waste (HHW) or electronic waste (E-Waste) is accepted during these pick-ups.

Free Tire Collection Event Saturday

Los Angeles County, in partnership with the City of Palmdale, City of Lancaster, and CalRecycle, is hosting free tire collection events at multiple LA County Road Yards, including 38126 N. Sierra Hwy, in Palmdale, as well as 4859 W Avenue L-12, 17341 E Avenue J, and 8505 E Avenue T on Saturday, April 22, from 9 am to 2 pm. Bring up to 9 tires per trip; rims will also be accepted. Paint Recycling, Reuse, and Mural Event

The City is partnering with PaintCare to host a paint recycling and reuse event where residents are encouraged to attend if they have paint that they need to dispose of or if they need paint. Join us on Saturday, April 29, from 9 am to 1 pm at the Palmdale Transportation Center, 39000 Clock Tower Plaza Dr., to see artist team AQMNI bring a waste minimization themed mural to life. AQMNI create custom designed murals and art installations that accurately tell a story through bold, imaginative art. They will be on site on the day of the event creating a waste minimization mural. HHW and E-Waste Events

Residents may take their HHW and E-Waste to the Antelope Valley Environmental Collection Center (AVECC), located at 1200 West City Ranch Road in Palmdale. AVECC is open on the first and third 3rd Saturday of each month from 9 am to 3 pm. For more information and for updates on service dates/hours, call (888) CLEAN LA or visit CleanLA.com.

Mattress Recycling

Palmdale residents may drop off mattresses at the Palmdale Landfill free of charge, or they may schedule a free bulky item pickup four times per year, with up to four items collected per pickup. To also find other free mattress recycling facilities please visit ByeByeMattress.com.

Free Document Shredding

Palmdale residents may bring up to five boxes of documents for shredding to Palmdale Landfill, 1200 W. City Ranch Road, May 13, July 8 and September 9, from 9 am to 12 pm.

No metal clips, binders, plastic sheet covers (staples, file folders, envelopes, ok) For more information, please call 661/947-7197 or visit home.wm.com/palmdale. Document destruction services are available to Palmdale residents every second Saturday of an odd month (subject to change).

Free Smart Gardening Webinars

Enjoy webinars to learn about composting, water-wise gardening, organic gardening, and small-space gardening. Webinars are 45-minutes long, followed by a 15-minute question and answer session that includes an opportunity to order compost bins at a discounted price. For an in-person workshop, join us on Wednesday, June 21, from 5 -6:30 pm at Legacy Commons, 930 East Ave. Q-9, to learn basic backyard composting techniques and be entered to win a 65-gallon compost bin.
