Palmdale Calls for Artists: Transform Pelona Vista Park With Stunning Staircase Murals

PALMDALE, CA – The City of Palmdale is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for stair murals to be installed at Pelona Vista Park. This exciting art initiative will transform the park’s two staircases leading to the north fields into visual expressions of the project’s themes of health, wellness, sportsmanship and community pride.

Pelona Vista Park spans approximately 30 acres and features 10 lighted soccer fields, a fitness court and a one-mile walking path. The murals will make the park an enriching and colorful community space for everyone who visits.
“We encourage all local muralists in the Antelope Valley to apply,” said Mayor Richard Loa. “The City is committed to supporting public art that makes our communal spaces more colorful and reflect the values we share as a City.”
With an all-inclusive budget of $10,500, the grant will cover all the necessary expenses, including the artist’s fee, paint supplies and equipment rentals. Included in the budget, the selected artist will also receive a $450 stipend to create a color sketch or digital image of the proposed artwork to scale. Proposals must align with the project’s objectives, ensuring the artwork is family-friendly. The City’s Public Art Commission will evaluate and select submissions that best meet the objectives of this project.
“This mural project is a great opportunity for our local artists to showcase their talent and creativity while making a lasting impact on the community,” said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. “We look forward to seeing how these murals celebrate the spirit of Palmdale.”
To qualify, artists must reside in California, must be 18 years or older at the time of submission and be prepared to work on-site at Pelona Vista Park. They must be the sole owner and author of submitted designs and agree to their art becoming the property of the City of Palmdale. Murals are considered temporary, with a lifespan of at least two years and up to eight years unless extended by the City in writing. The City also reserves the right to reproduce the artwork for promotional materials, such as website and social media posts, to share the artwork with the public. Artists must provide insurance and obtain a valid City of Palmdale business license.
