Kipp Mueller Announces Campaign for State Senate

Santa Clarita, CA – Labor and Civil Rights Attorney Kipp Mueller today announced his campaign for State Senate in the 23rd District, which encompasses the Antelope, Santa Clarita, and Victor Valleys. Mueller, who ran for this seat in 2020 and lost to the Republican incumbent and the (formerly) most powerful Republican in our state government by a mere .8%, announces his 2024 bid with the support of two powerful district leaders: Former Assemblymember and Congressional Candidate Christy Smith and Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo.

Christy Smith, who represented Santa Clarita in the State Assembly and ran to represent much of the State Senate seat in Congress, said, “As someone who represented much of the State Senate district in the Assembly and ran to represent much of it in Congress, I know this community deeply and personally. We need someone in the State Senate who will fight for our fair share of resources, who understands the struggles we face everyday, and who will always prioritize our interests above all else. That’s why I’m so proud to endorse Kipp Mueller. Kipp will go to Sacramento and fight every single day for housing we can afford, good jobs right here at home, a strong education system for our kids, and an economy that works for everyone. I’m excited to see all that he will accomplish for our community.”

Pilar Schiavo, who represents Santa Clarita in the State Assembly, having just flipped Assembly District 40 from red to blue in November, said, “I am thrilled to endorse Kipp Mueller for State Senate. As someone who just ran for office in this region, I saw how invested Kipp is in the success of working families and how hard he’s willing to work to deliver for us. Kipp will fight to ensure everyone has the quality healthcare they deserve, to help solve homelessness in our community and beyond, and to protect women’s reproductive rights and our climate. I can’t wait to partner with him in Sacramento and fight for our district as a team!”

Mueller is well-positioned to flip this seat from red to blue for the first time ever. Mueller’s State Senate race in 2020, his first ever run for office, was one of the closest elections across California for the 2020 election cycle. He raised more money than the incumbent during the final year of the election and outperformed any Democrat who had ever run for the seat. With redistricting and demographic shifts, the seat is anticipated to be about 5% more favorable to Democrats this cycle.

As a Labor and Civil Rights Attorney, Mueller represents working families, going toe-to-toe against both large corporations and the government. He will bring that same energy and fight to Sacramento. He’s running because this district is known as the Forgotten District in Sacramento. Always last in line. Mueller is running to strengthen the local economy, ensure everyone has quality healthcare, protect women’s reproductive rights, help solve our homelessness crisis, tackle the climate crisis, and ensure this district finally establishes a four-year public university.
