LANCASTER, CA — District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman today announced that former Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Custody Assistant Daniel Everts pleaded no contest to forcing a woman inmate to engage in sex acts at LASD’s Lancaster Station in June 2019.

“What happened to the victim in this case is unconscionable, and our office will not tolerate such egregious abuses of authority,” District Attorney Hochman said. “A member of law enforcement who commits sex crimes against an inmate in their custody deserves to be imprisoned. Our prosecutors will vigorously argue for the maximum sentence in state prison.”

Daniel Joseph Everts (DOB 1/31/95) entered an open plea of no contest in case BA490510 to all charges: one felony count of forcible oral copulation; one felony count of oral copulation under color of authority; and one felony count of sexual activity with a detained inmate. The plea was entered over the People’s objection.

Sentencing is set for July 7 at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center, Dept. 122. The People will seek the maximum sentence of eight years in state prison. By law, the defendant will be required to register as a sex offender for 20 years.

The case is being prosecuted by the Office’s Justice System Integrity Division and was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
