City of Palmdale Appoints Sal Mendez as Assistant City Manager

PALMDALE, CA – The City of Palmdale is pleased to announce the appointment of Sal Mendez as the new assistant city manager, effective Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024. Mendez brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of dedicated public service to this key leadership role, most notably from his recent role as assistant city manager and public works and utilities director for the City of El Monte. Sal effectively led citywide Public Works service programs, transportation, and water and wastewater systems management during his time there. His efforts improved the city’s infrastructure and utility services, enhancing the quality of life for its residents.

 

Mendez previously served the cities of Lynwood and El Monte, where he demonstrated outstanding leadership and a steadfast commitment to public service. His experience in these roles has equipped him with a deep understanding of our community’s challenges and opportunities. Mendez is recognized for his commitment to fostering sustainable growth and development within the communities he has served. His leadership has propelled these cities into a more sustainable future, leaving an indelible mark on infrastructure and overall well-being.

Mendez is an alumnus of the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology. Mendez also completed a master’s degree in public administration at California Polytechnic University, Pomona.

 

Sal Mendez’s academic achievements, combined with his extensive practical experience, have provided him with a comprehensive understanding of community dynamics and effective governance. The City of Palmdale looks forward to his contributions to the continued growth and success of the community in his role as assistant city manager.
