The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has filed three criminal charges against former Lancaster Deputy Angel Reinosa who fabricated a story about being shot.  

A former Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was charged today with falsely reporting that he had been shot by a sniper outside a sheriff’s station last summer, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Angel Reinosa (dob 3/2/98) was charged in case BA484557 with two felony counts of insurance fraud and one misdemeanor count of making a false report of a crime. Arraignment could be as early as tomorrow in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

Deputy District Attorney Byron Beck of the Justice System Integrity Division is prosecuting the case.

On Aug. 21, 2019, Reinosa allegedly said he was shot by a sniper while he stood outside the sheriff’s station in Lancaster. The purported shooting prompted a wide-scale search for the sniper but it was later determined that Reinosa had allegedly fabricated the incident.

If convicted as charged, Reinosa faces a possible maximum sentence of five years and six months in county jail. The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Reinosa is being charged with two counts of insurance fraud and a count of filling a false police report. Detectives arrested Reinosa during a traffic stop in Sylmar. He has been booked into the County Jail Inmate Reception Center, where his bail was set at $40,000. He is scheduled for arraignment on January 17.
