City of Lancaster to Hold Free Collection Event in Recognition of America Recycles Day

In recognition of America Recycles Day, the City of Lancaster will hold a free collection event on Saturday, November 17, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at The Hangar, home of the Lancaster JetHawks, located at 45116 Valley Central Way. During the event, residents are invited to recycle electronic waste (e-waste) and paint. The nationally recognized America Recycles Day, observed on November 15, is dedicated to the promotion, education, and importance of recycling throughout the United States.

The City of Lancaster encourages all Antelope Valley residents to make the most of this free collection event in order to responsibly dispose of e-waste and labeled paint cans. Discarding these items in the household garbage bin is illegal, as well as detrimental to the environment. The City urges residents to help keep the valley healthy and clean by bringing these items in for proper disposal, which positively impacts the environment and reduces costs associated with illegal dumping clean up. This allows funds to be redirected to other community programs and activities.

In addition to free e-waste and labelled paint can disposal, document shredding services will be provided for $5.00 per box.

Things to keep in mind when participating in this collection event:

  • This event is not for businesses, only household quantities will be accepted.

  • Mattresses will not be accepted.

  • Paint must be in its original container and have its original label intact.

  • Aerosol paints, craft paints, and nail polishes will not be accepted.

Residents who are unable to attend the November 17 collection event are encouraged to utilize the City of Lancaster’s Recycling Center, which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the recycling of used oil, oil filters, and e-waste. Items such as cooking oil, anti-freeze, and labeled paint cans can be dropped off Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Friday – Sunday, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.

The City of Lancaster’s Recycling Center does not accept light bulbs, tires, gas appliances, furniture, gasoline, hazardous chemicals, pharmaceutical waste, medical/biological waste, or sharps (needles). To learn how to properly dispose of these items, visit cityoflancasterca.org/recycling or call (661) 723-5843.
