ANTONOVICH SUPPORTS TASK FORCE ON OIL AND GAS PROJECTS

With the approval of Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, LA County officials have been ordered to establish a strike team to take a hard look at the physical condition of oil and gas facilities in unincorporated Los Angeles County.

An amendment by Antonovich also established an advisory panel of five experts to oversee the strike team’s work. Each Supervisor would appoint one panel member.

“Given the poor handling of the Aliso Canyon gas leak by Southern California Gas Company and state regulators, it’s imperative for the board to be deeply involved in keeping our residents safe,” said Antonovich.

The strike team’s mission would include prioritizing sites that pose the highest risk to citizens and the environment, evaluating potential problems with current safety plans, and reviewing all emergency response plans, including on-site visits.
