Rep. Knight's Statement on President's Plan to Close Guantanamo Bay

(WASHINGTON, D.C.)-Representative Steve Knight (CA-25) made the following statement today on the Administration’s plan to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility

President Barack Obama Today called for the closure of the Guantanamo Bay detention facility after delivering his plan to Congress to achieve a goal that has long eluded his presidency.

"The President’s proposal to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay is a glaring admission that he is putting his legacy before American security. Last year Congress passed and the President signed into law the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2016, which not only prohibits the closure of the facility, but forbids the transfer of dangerous detainees to American soil. Now the President is side-stepping the law and in doing so, is putting American lives at risk. I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress to hold the President accountable for the laws he himself signed."
